Resources for Families
Al-anon Family Groups: al-anon.org
Al-Anon is a fellowship for families and friends who have been affected by someone else’s drinking. It is not part of Alcoholics Anonymous, but it was founded on the same principles and follows a 12-step model. In Al-Anon, members share their experiences, strength, and hope with one another. The focus is on learning healthier ways to cope, setting boundaries, and finding peace whether or not the loved one chooses recovery. It’s a place where families realize they are not alone and that healing is possible for them too.
Learn to Cope: learn2cope.org
Learn to Cope is a peer-led support network for families who have a loved one struggling with addiction. Founded in Massachusetts, it has grown into a nonprofit with chapters across the state and an active online forum that reaches thousands of families. Unlike Al-Anon, it is not a 12-step program. Meetings combine peer support with education from guest professionals, and many chapters also provide overdose prevention training and free naloxone kits. Families come together to share their experiences, learn strategies, and find hope in the middle of something that can feel overwhelming.

The Family Restored: thefamilyrestored.org
The Family Restored is a nonprofit based in New England that offers support, education, and resources for families impacted by addiction. Their mission is to heal families and strengthen recovery by connecting loved ones to peer-led groups, professional resources, and community education. It is not a 12-step program itself, but it often encourages family members to explore recovery support, including Al-Anon and other fellowships. The Family Restored also provides treatment scholarships, workshops, and family support meetings designed to reduce stigma and give families the tools they need to find their own path to healing.
If your loved one is in a treatment program that offers family support meetings, we strongly encourage you to participate in those!
